Holland College’s new collaborative initiative shares stories of diversity
'Voices' Project aims to create inclusive and engaged community by sharing diverse stories and experiences

A new Holland College storytelling initiative starting in March aims to empower individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds.
The Voices Project highlights real stories from people connected to the Holland College community by creating safe spaces for students, alumni, staff and faculty to share lived experiences, traditions and moments of growth.
It is a collaboration between the institution’s Office of Culture and Inclusion, Foundation and Alumni Office, Student Services and Support, the Student Association of Holland College, Recruitment and First Year Advising and the Communications department.
Sasha Nandlal, culture and inclusion advisor at Holland College, said “Voices” connects campus communities.
“The Voices Project, drawing from Indigenous knowledge sharing practices, uses storytelling to bring together Holland College’s past, present and future prospective students, staff and faculty to share experiences, cultural traditions and moments of collective growth,” Nandlal said.
Shannon Rush, recruitment and first-year advising manager at Holland College, said the project is an opportunity for the diverse student community to share experiences and perspectives.
“Hearing these stories helps us celebrate the richness of our college and ensures all voices are seen and valued,” Rush said. “It’s a vital part of what makes Holland College such an inclusive and vibrant place to learn.”
The Voices Project creates meaningful space for students to share their lived experiences, celebrate their identities, and learn from one another, said Candice Heigh, executive director of the Student Association of Holland College.
“By amplifying student perspectives, this initiative reflects the kind of inclusive, engaged community we strive to build—one where students feel heard, represented, and empowered to contribute to the Holland College experience,” Heigh said.
